Materia was set up in Stockholm in 1992 by architects and industrial designers, Kersti Sandin and Lars Bülowboth. Later, the company moved to Tranås in Sweden and became an independent brand within the Kinnarps Group. Materia designs, develops, and manufactures interior furnishings for creative meeting areas and dynamic organisations. The company’s approach is characterised by user-centric design.
This combination of an innovative design philosophy with a focus on the user, and an uncompromising approach when selecting materials and manufacturing methods, quickly led to success. Today Materia meeting concepts and products are used all over the world. The company is extremely committed to the environment and social responsibility. This is exemplified by their Möbelfakta furniture labelling and above all their unique Forest Stewardship Council certification. This means the wood used in Materia furniture is sourced from forests that are managed in a responsible manner.
